UGANDA MILITARY(UPDF)

 

 

 

The Uganda military is one of the disciplined and committed military forces in east Africa. Below is the mission and the vision of the military of Uganda

Mission

To defend and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda, and the Constitution that encapsulates people sovereignty through popular will.

Vision

Transform the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) into a modern , professional, efficient and accountable Force anchored on a strong civil-military partnership.

Structure of the Ministry Of Defence and veteran Affairs

The Ministry of Defence is made of a Headquarter which comprises of the Ministry’s civilian and military top leadership.

 

The Political leadership of the Ministry comprises of:

  • Minister for Defence
  • Minister of State for Defence
  • Permanent Secretary (Accounting Officer)

The Ministry Headquarter is further organised into;

  • Finance and Administration
  • Logistics and Procurement
  • Defence Reform Secretariate
  • Policy Analysis Unit
  • Resource Centre

Objectives of the Ministry

Defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda.

Build adequate and credible defence capacity to address external threats and in the medium term assist in maintaining internal security.

Create a productive and self-sustaining force.

Ensure adherence to and furtherance of international obligations.

Ensure continuation and strengthening of the Defence force that has respect for Human Rights.

Create military alliances to enhance regional security and stability.

Maintain national cohesion.

Promote co-operation with the East African countries, which share common political, economic, social and cultural values, and interests.

Support regional and continental integration through the East African Community and African Union.

Formulation of the Defence policy arising out of H.E the President declaration in his 2001 election manifesto to professionalize the UPDF.
