Expert Technician in Clinical Simulation, Lusaka, Zambia (full time)

Place of Assignment: Based at the Levy Mwanawasa Medical University

Expert Technician in Clinical Simulation, Lusaka, Zambia (full time)

Contract Type: Fixed term appointment: up to 3 years

Place of Assignment: Based at the Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU), Lusaka, with frequent visits to Regional Training Hubs in Zambia.

Start of Contract: As soon as possible.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop, in collaboration with partners and the Project Technical Advisor plans for the development of simulation training at LMMU and Regional Training Hubs for the ML.
    • Conduct an audit of the current resource availability and knowledge in the field of simulation training.
    • Develop activity budgets
    • Monitor at regular interval, reflect and adjust activities to students needs and performance
    • Encourage self-training and engage students in the auto-production of teaching materials
    • Provide simulation training to key academic and medical staff at LMMU and Regional Training Hubs
    • Collaborate with Heidelberg University research team and LMMU team (IT, Education, Web) to produce, develop and optimize e-material for both training and assessment purposes.
    • Communicate and share experiences on simulation activities with provincial hubs, aiming at harmonization and maintaining high standards throughout LMMU hubs.
    • Contribute to ensuring sustainability of the model when SolidarMed phases out support.
  • Your profile
    • Healthcare qualification in either medical, clinical or paramedical fields.
    • Three years minimum experience in surgical and medical skills training in low to high fidelity environment acquired at a reputed institution. Demonstrable experience is non-negotiable for this post.
    • Familiarity with design and delivery of team and behavioural training.
    • Confident with video-recording and editing in high quality e-learning and e-training resource production.
    • Awareness of modern educational trends and principles of adult learning.
    • Intercultural context sensitivity is a must, as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Solid computer skills and experienced in use of ICT in medical education.
    • Fluent English and strong reporting and documentation skills.
    • Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and resource poor contexts, an advantage.
    • Competent driver with valid driving licence. Prepared to travel regularly around sites.
