UDS Swears in New SRC Executives

The SRC under the auspices of the Dean of Students Affairs on Friday September 11, 2020 successfully organized a Handing over Ceremony for the newly elected executives. The brief ceremony took place at the Central Administration where the Pro-Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Felix Kofi Abagale, administered the oath of office to the new executives. Mr. Dagungong Binwatin Clement’s led administration gave way to a new executive led by Mr. Christopher Otoo of the Nyankpala Campus. The Outgoing Executives handed over their respective files as symbols of authority to the incoming.

Mr. Clement in his farewell address thanked the entire University community for their support and wished the newly elected executives well in their respective offices. He listed among his achievements – the Promulgation and Ratification of the SRC Constitution, the Financial Support to the Sports Team that lead to UDS’ victory during the 2019 GUSA games in Legon, the gaining of approval for SRC to build hostels to augment students’ accommodation in the University and many projects across the various Campuses.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Christopher Otoo thanked the outgone executives and the entire student body for the confidence reposed in them and promised to continue with the good works of his predecessors, bearing in mind their needs and also the reputation of the University. He pledged to cooperate with Management to run a smooth, peaceful and fruitful academic year. He promised to team up with the relevant authorities to solve the water and accommodation problems on the Nyankpala Campus during his tenure.

The Dean of Students, Dr. Isaac Sackey congratulated both the outgone and the incoming executives for their boldness in taking up student leadership. He praised the outgone executives for adopting a dialogue approach for which no serious confrontation ensued during their reign, and called on the incoming executives to chart a similar path for a smooth academic calendar.

The Pro-Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Felix Kofi Abagale, congratulated the newly elected SRC Executives and wished them a successful tenure in office. He, however, called on the outgone executives to do proper handing over of relevant documents and not reduce the exercise to a mere swapping of empty files. He urged both sides to ensure a complete takeover of all relevant documents as well as finances to avoid any breach in the future. Prof. Abagale further admonished the executives to take their studies very seriously since that is the primary reason for their coming to the University.

Present at the ceremony were Dr. Paul Aryee (Vice-Dean of Students, Tamale Campus), Mr. Sulemana Mahamoud (Head, Budget), Mr. Issac Parry (Deputy Director, Internal Audit), Mr. Alhassan Hussein (Counsellor, Tamale Campus), Dr. Raphael Adu-Gyamfi (Vice-Dean of Students, Nyankpala Campus), Mr. Alhassan Iddrisu (Deputy Finance Director), Mrs. Juliana Abila Buami and, Mrs. Lawrencia K. Woninea, both Assistant Registrars.
