Zambian Air Force

The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) safeguards the sovereignty of our mother land against all enemy air threats and renders support to land forces in defence of the country. It is organized into six (6) departments as follows:-

• Operations
• Technical services
• Administration
• Supply services
• Training
• Audit and inspectorate

Functions

The functions are as follows:-

• To defend the Zambian airspace against enemy air attacks
• To support ground forces in operations
• To render air transport support to civil authorities when need arises
• To support and co-operate with state organs and state institutions in times of public emergencies and national disasters.
• Perform any other duties as may be directed by the government from time to time.

The Ministry of Defence is charged with the critical responsibility of preserving, protecting and defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Zambia for the sole purpose of ensuring the country, its citizens and residents are safe guarded from both internal and external aggression.

The Ministry of Defence draws its mandate from the Government Gazette Notice No.547 of 2004, and is accordingly responsible for the following portfolio functions:

• National Defence Policy
• Zambia Defence Force
• Zambia National Service
• Home Guards
• Combined Cadet Force
• War Graves and Memorials

In addition to the portfolio functions highlighted above, the Ministry is guided by the following statutes:-
