Project Manager – Lusaka

CARE, an International Non-Governmental relief and development organization with various projects in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Muchinga, Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, North-western, and Southern provinces of Zambia. CARE International in Zambia is in the process of recruiting staff for the SUN II programme to support the implementation of the First 1000 Most Critical Days Programme in selected districts. The staff will be critical in the management as well as the operational and financial oversight of the proposed programme in the following positions:-

Kindly note that these positions are dependent on successful signing of the Partnership Agreement with the donor.

The job holder will successfully deliver all aspects of CARE’s supported SUN II programme by working closely with relevant government line ministries to support the implementation of the 1st 1000 MCDP in selected districts The job will entail providing overall management oversight on project implementation in five districts namely Chinsali, Mpika, Isoka, Choma and Monze

Specific Deliverables:

  • Plans, designs and implements project deliverables in accordance with CARE Zambia’s operational plans, the Terms of Reference for the project as well as project methods and standards.
  • Participates in long-range strategic planning exercises and contributes professional expertise and operational experience to the development of strategies for CARE Zambia programs; acts as an advocate and change leader for best practices in project management methods, techniques, tools and technologies.
  • Prepares quality narrative reports as required by the donor and plans and leads workshops with key stakeholders, to ensure agreement and buy-in to proposed plans.
  • Manages the implementation of the protocols for monitoring, evaluating, managing and reporting project quality and deliverables, as well as the budgetary and financial controls to account for and report on the utilization of project assets.
  • Fields and explores problematic issues arising from project activities; confers with project stakeholders and provides direct advocacy, training, mentoring and assistance as required.
  • Establishes and maintains constructive business relationships with stakeholders including cross-functional links in CARE Zambia, counterparts in other NGO’s and government Ministries, and with communities; sets up and manages the information channels and tools essential to keeping stakeholders “in the loop” in a timely, efficient and consequential way.
  • Participates in relevant coordination meetings with other partners and Government ministries implementing the 1st 1000 MCDP to promote stakeholder engagement and consensus building.
  • Provide managerial oversight in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programme activities in liaison with the donor and NFNC
  • Ensure compliance with CARE and donor policies, criteria and procedures with respect to project implementation.
  • Adheres to all Organization policies, procedures and business ethics and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within the team

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Development Studies from a recognized university with a minimum of 10 years working experience in a similar position.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in implementing multi-sectoral Nutrition related activities
  • Proven experience with practical and impactful gender equity and women’s empowerment approaches to development and humanitarian action.
  • Strong project management skills including budget management and tracking.

Other added advantages include:

  • Experience working with government
  • Experience working in an international non-governmental organization
  • Good facilitation and participatory methodology skills
  • Computer literate, including word processing and excel/spreadsheets
  • Experience in People Management
