The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Christ Congregation, KNUST, has donated food items valued at three thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 3,000.00) to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Food Bank on Wednesday, 10th March 2021. Items donated included, noodles, five bags of Cindy rice, two cartons of milo, three cartons of Lotus mackerel, two cartons of oil, a carton of Nido, a carton of sardines and boxes of sugar.
Presenting the items on behalf of the church, the Catechist, Mr. J.W. Fynn noted that the items donated would go a long way in supporting the students who are in dire need of food items.
The Vice Dean of Students, Professor Okyere Addai-Mensah on behalf of the Management expressed gratitude to the church for coming to the aid of needy students. He revealed that there are about 4,300 brilliant but needy students who cannot afford one square meal on campus. He described the kind gesture as timely and urged other institutions to support by donating food items or cash to the KNUST Food Bank.
The KNUST Food Bank was an initiative established by Ms. Sandra Esinam Sosu-Dees, the 2018 Women’s Commission of the Student Representative Council (SRC). The purpose of the Food Bank is to eradicate extreme hunger and ensure access to food by every needy student on campus. The KNUST Food Bank relies on kind donations from individuals and organizations.
