Ashesi to start Engineering master’s programme with leading Swiss university ETH Zurich

Ashesi University and ETH Zurich in Switzerland, together with industry partners, are developing a Master’s programme in engineering that will be taught in Ghana by faculty of both universities. Once all aspects are approved, and the programme is started, graduating students will receive both a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Ashesi and a Master of Advanced Studies degree from ETH Zurich. Click here to register for the event.

Ashesi University and ETH Zurich in Switzerland will be publicly announcing a planned partnership that will see us starting a unique joint Master’s Degree Programme in Engineering here in Ghana. The announcement will be made during a virtual event celebrating our planning progress, at 1:30 PM GMT on October 13, 2020.

ETH Zurich – or the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich – is one of the world’s highest-ranked universities. It has educated over 20 Nobel Prize Laureates, including modern physics pioneer and the inventor of the general theory of relativity Albert Einstein.

Our partnership will combine the strength of mission, teaching, and innovation across our two universities; and will enable students in Africa to gain access to a high-quality master’s education in-continent. The envisaged curriculum will provide a modern, interdisciplinary engineering education, finally granting a Master’s Degree title from both ETH Zurich and Ashesi. We have developed this programme in partnership with an initial group of industrial partners who hope to contribute towards the growth of Engineering potential in Africa. Pending all regulatory and institutional approvals, the programme is expected to begin in 2021.

Together with ETH Zurich’s Rector Dr. Sarah Springman, Ashesi President Patrick Awuah, Provost Dr. Angela Owusu-Ansah, and colleagues from both institutions, we look forward to launching this event and eventually bringing our first postgraduate programme at Ashesi to reality.
