The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe on Friday, 1st March 2019 hosted the team that represented Makerere University and won the 2019 Jessup Moot National Rounds.  They were accompanied by the Makerere Guild Speaker Rt. Hon. Isaac Kwagala. The School of Law hosted the National Rounds from 15th to 16th February 2019 and the winning team consisted of; Mr. Kansiime Mukama Taremwa, Ms. Rehemah Atwine, Mr. Jeffrey Kaddu, Mr. Kaleeba Aaron and Ms. Isabella Magina.

The team qualified to represent Uganda at the Jessup Moot Court finals due to take place from 31st March to 6th April 2019 in Washington DC. Makerere beat the Uganda Christian University Faculty of Law to emerge winners of the 2019 National Rounds, with Mr. Kansiime Mukama Taremwa being declared the best oralist. Teams from Farou Bay College, Sierra Leone and the College of Juba, South Sudan were present at the National Rounds and also faced off in a Moot match before the judges.

Congratulating the winning team, Prof. Nawangwe thanked all five students for making Makerere University proud. “The University will sponsor the team with up to US$13,000 to represent the region at the world’s most prestigious Moot competition and we wish you all the best” he added.
